Ayers Teachers Strike Activities

While the members of the Beverly Teachers Association are on strike, there are several options for Ayers families to help with child care coverage and keep students entertained and busy.

There is a suggested donation of $5 per student in order to cover the cost of snacks (one-time donation, regardless of how many times the student attends; does not include Artcie or The Cabot, see below for more details). You can pay with cash at dropoff or Venmo @Meredith-Quinn-1. Any money that is left over will go toward the cost of The Cabot rental.

All of the events being sponsored by the PTO are volunteer driven, all of whom have had (or are in the process of securing) CORI checks. The PTO does have insurance in case of an emergency.

We appreciate all 31 caretakers who have volunteered their time. We are also beyond grateful to the Ryal Side Civic Association, which has graciously donated the Civic Center for the week’s events. Please visit their website to become a member or to donate to say thank you.

This is a fine example of community coming together to help each other. The PTO is filled with gratitude. If there is still more we can be doing, please don’t hesitate to reach out at [email protected].

**PLEASE NOTE: As much as we would like to help all Beverly families, ay this time all Civic Center events are for Ayers students only. If our the sessions do not fill up, we are happy to open them to other schools as well. All Beverly students are welcome at The Cabot on Thursday, should things go that far.**

Fellow community members have offered to pick up lunches for others from the high school.

Also, the high school has put together a list of National Honor Society high school students, middle school students, and parents who are available to help with child care. Please email us if you would like to be put in touch with the people coordinating the list.

Handprints for Teachers

We love our teachers! The Ayers PTO is making a poster of student handprints for our educators to have on the picket line. Even if your child isnโ€™t an Ayers student yet, weโ€™d love your participation! Drop student handprints in the box outside the Civic Center by 4pm Sunday to thank our teachers for fighting for our kids!

PTO Plans During BTA Strike

The PTO will not be hosting any meetups Friday or Monday (which is a holiday). We will start hosting on Tuesday and plan to have 25 to 50 spots open each day. We will spend the weekend firming up our plans and scheduling the volunteers (thank you, everyone who has signed up!). We will email a full digest and signups on Sunday night at 6 pm. Please keep an eye on your inbox, as that will be your chance to sign up.

Here are some things you can do in the meantime:

๐Ÿ–Have your students decorate outlines of their hands. Bring handprints to the drop box outside of the Ryal Side Civic Center (7 Eleanor Ave). They will be added to a poster displayed outside Ayers to show teachers our support. Please drop off hands by 4 pm Sunday.

๐Ÿš™ Swing by Ayers in the morning to say hi to or stand with the teachers.

๐Ÿฅช Pick up your student’s lunch at Beverly High School between 10:30 am and 12:30 pm.

๐Ÿ’ช Head to Lynch Park tomorrow (Friday) at 12:30 to rally with your Ayers educators and all of Beverly.

๐ŸดOr grab a bite out! There are several restaurants in the area offering free food and drink. Some include Post – Hamilton and Longboards in Salem. Feel free to share any others you find!

๐Ÿ—จ Drop a note below to share your plans and connect with other families!

Remember: We’re all in this together!

Ayers PTO Statement on the BTA Strike

Last night the Beverly Teachers Association (BTA) voted to strike. Effective immediately, there will be no school until an agreement is reached. The Ayers Elementary School PTO board strongly supports our Ayers BTA members and all BTA educators. We implore the city to do the right thing by our teachers and, by doing so, the right thing by our students as well.

We will support our teachers as best we can during this strike and we are also dedicated to supporting all Ayers families. We will be hosting meetups to help lessen the burden during school closures. We encourage anyone who might need extra assistance to reach out. Our community is strong and we will get through this together.
